50th Anniversary of the Hill Abduction

This year, the Exeter UFO Festival will be observing the 50th anniversary of the Betty and Barney Hill abduction which took place on September 19, 1961 in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

The anniversary will also be commemorated at Indian Head Resort in Lincoln, NH, September 23, 24, and 25, 2011. Indian Head Resort is located on the Hills’ UFO abduction route, and is the last property they recalled seeing prior to their unique UFO experience.

Its described as an ‘Exeter Encounter’ but didn’t that encounter technically occur in Fremont?

Hi Steve. Great question! Norman was actually in Kensington, NH (walking back to Exeter) when he first had his sighting. After his sighting, he flagged down a car and hitched a ride to the Exeter police station. I assume the reason it’s commonly called the “Exeter Encounter” or the “Exeter Incident” is because all three witnesses were from Exeter. A lot of the fallout from their experience took place in Exeter. And, most likely, because it sounds better.

Norman Muscarello is one of the most unique individuals who ever lived. Norman, had a close encounter TWICE, on the same day. Actually, it was early morning on that day. Incredible.

Was at last year’s show, fun, informative. Many good speakers, one not so good w/ lousy audio/visuals and dry. Stanton, as would be expected, stole the show. I am thrilled to hear he’ll be back again this time. Historic anniversary marker, certainly great Betty’s niece will be attending. Have been along the Muscarello route a dozen times, probably hasn’t changed much since 65′ has it? Is it illuminated any better at nite? I wonder how the residents of the property (wont mention for privacy), feel about thier famous locale. I haven’t read the Fuller book since i was a kid, so wasn’t aware or forgot that he had TWO encounters or sightings, have to check that. Thank God Norman had 2 witnesses. I think that w/o them this sighting would have been a big yawn and the credibility of a 19 year hitchiking on a country road would be in serious question, even though police, exeter and other towns had reports of sightings within a 20 mile radius. Don’t forget that the woman crying by the side of the road to whom the cop responded to was viewed as some kind of kook. The whole case here is almost an abberation (imho) from other encounters because it could have by all rights escalated to a ce111 We all know what happened when Travis Walton got too close. It always seemed as if Norman though fascinated and transfixed, was keeping a safe distance and even retreated at times. Having read his interviews as an adult, i doubt that would have happened again
